Manila Pride March 2011 Experience

3
Along the busy streets of  Remedios Malate, people from all walks of life gathered and joined the celebration of the “PRIDE OF THE ORIENT”. This is the theme of this year’s “PRIDE MARCH” for the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community. Orginally, the birth of the PRIDE march here in the Philippines, happened in Quezon avenue dated June 26,1994. Since then, it became a traditional event. This year’s host is Task Force Pride (TFP), a non profit organization which constructed the parade held last December 3, 2011 and the estimated participants were round about 1,700. They have shown their colorful liberating spirits and expressed their freedom, equality as well as their advocacy for anti-discrimination for lesbians and gays. The route of the parade started at Remedios circle passing through Roxas boulevard and it ended on the corner of Maria Orosa street and Julio Nakpil.
After the march, a group of supporters and the political partylists expressed their opinions, ideas and interests toward the community. One of the special guest was congressman Teodoro Casiño who shared some insights about a bill that has the possibility to be passed this month. On later part, there were stand up comedians who entertained the crowd. Indeed, it ended with such distinct gratification.
As the evening rises, the eye catchy metallic silverish stage has already been set up on the corner of Nakpil and Orosa street. The lights and the sound system were checked, the four entry points of the street were closed, to add the exclusivity of the event, security was dispatched all over the place and tickets were sold at the gates. This makes it more exciting for the preparation of the after party. Then, by 11:24pm the much awaited question and answer portion of the Ultimo Icono LGBT pageant has started. Previously, due to bad weather conditions last November 5 2011, the pageant had to be cut short. Ketchup magazine headed by Vic Alba in cooperation with TFP, supported by Androgyny productions, continued the program on the same date with the PRIDE march.
Furthermore, Mentorque productions together with Androgyny productions made their contributions for the party. Beside the stage, unlimited cocktail drinks were served in the VIP area. There were non-stop dancers performing on the platform.
The highlights of that night were the dj’s from various clubs in Malate. Guest DJ Raven participated as well. While Cal Soesanto head of Androgyny Productions exhibited her exemptional electro-house remix as she hit the deck. She hyped the crowd with her awesome music. As the result, some people went on the stage and danced until they were exhausted. You can hear them singing along with beat, most of them groove and dance as one. Some people stayed until the break of dawn, some people were so drunk they can’t seem to hold of themselves, and for some they don’t want the night to end. The after party was definitely sensational, it was a night to remember.
